Togolese military personnel have completed their training on the Turkish ASFAT Mechanical Mine Clearing Vehicle (MEMATT) remote-controlled mine clearance system.
ASFAT’s Mechanical Mine Clearing Vehicle (MEMATT) has found export successes in Togo and Burkina Faso, with two of such vehicles being delivered to Togo recently.
The Turkish company delivered two units to Togo in October last year.
The deliveries were done on 19 October, during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Togo. Thus, Togo is now the third country that received ASFAT’s MEMATT vehicles, after Azerbaijan and Burkina Faso.
Also, earlier in July 2021, the Turkish Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced that its subsidiary ASFAT Inc. had Exported 4 Mechanical Mine-Clearing Equipment to Burkina Faso.
The Turkish MoD noted that this is considered to be ASFAT’s first exports to Africa.
The MoD also stated that the Mechanical Mine-Clearing Equipment have also been sold to Azerbaijan. ASFAT has so far exported 20 MEMATT to Azerbaijan.
Many countries are interested in ASFAT’s MEMATT and it is expected that the company will disclose another foreign sales contract of the equipment within the next couple of days.
MEMATT can neutralise mines as deep as 25 centimetres in a 1.7-metre-wide strip and be remote controlled from 500 metres if desired. The hull of the vehicle is made of Armox 500T armour steel, and steel tracks drive the vehicle.
