Cameroon Navy Ship (CNS) LE NTEM has been placed into a floating dry dock located in the deep seaport at Kribi for major maintenance works.
This is to allow it participate in the commemoration of the bicentenary of the independence of the Republic of Brazil.
The Cameroonian Navy in May 2020, announced that it was using its new floating dock to maintain its vessels, after acquiring the dock from China to improve naval platform serviceability.
The floating dock was completed in 2018. It left China in May that year and arrived in Kribi, Cameroon, on 13 July 2018.
The dock is 64 metres long and 21 metres wide and requires water ten metres deep to accommodate ships with a displacement of up to 700 tons.
Le Ntem is a Chinese-built patrol vessel acquired in 2014 by Poly Technologies. The
Defence Minister Mebe Ngo’o visited Qingdao, China in April, 2014, where he received two new patrol ships at Qingdao shipyard. Both (P109) and (P108) patrol craft were inducted into the Cameroonian naval fleet.
The two patrol ships subsequently arrived at the Cameroonian port of Douala, that country’s economic capital, in May 2014.
Five years ago, Cameroonian Navy Ship Le Ntem visited the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) of the Nigerian Navy in Calabar, the Cross River State capital as part of effort to strengthen the synergy between the Navies of both countries to improve security in the gulf of Guinea.
The CNS Le Ntem was commanded by Lieutenant Commander Mekinda Betrand accompanied by the Consulate to Nigeria, Foe Michael Atangana.
