US delivers communications equipment to Nigeria to enhance air and artillery strikes

The United States through its Mission in Nigeria has donated military equipment to the Nigerian military to improve its counter-terror operations.

The equipment worth $2.38 million were delivered in 1 February, 2021 under the US-Nigerian Air Ground Integration (AGI) joint program overseen by the Nigerian Ministry of Defence.

The communications equipment will enhance air and artillery operations while adhering to the Law of Armed Conflict says the US Mission in NIgeria.

It will enable the Nigerian military conduct airstrikes as well artillery bombardment without hitting civilians in the area of responsibility.

The equipment comprises of satellite encrypted phones, night vision goggles, binoculars, laser designators, tactical radios, digital maps, geographical information system etc.

The AGI School is supported by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa.

Following pause in Covid-19 restrictions, the Nigerian Armed Force’s Department Headquarter (DHQ) will recommence in-person training.
