Ethiopian Air Force orders six more Grob G 120TP turboprop trainers

The Ehiopian Air Force has placed order for a second tranche of six G 120TP turboprop training aircraft from H3 Grob Aircraft, set to be delivered before the end of 2019.

This deal is expected to increase the Ethiopian Air Force’s fleet of G 120TP fleet to 12 after a first batch was delivered earlier this year.

“We signed the initial contract in June 2019, and deliveries started in August and were completed in September,” said Ishan Sahgal, who has been Grob’s chief operating officer since July.

The G 120TPs will replace the 30-year-old SF 260TPs based at Dire Dawa Air Base, where the EAF’s training facility is located.

The Grob G 120 is a two seated training and aerobatic low-wing  Turboprop  aircraft powered with a Rolls Royce 250-B17F aircraft engine producing 456 shp (340 kW) for take-off.  According to the manufacturer, it is a thoroughbred basic trainer aircraft optimized for the demanding military training environment
